RIKEN employees enjoy the benefit of a generous vacation and leave package. Employees are encouraged to use their full quota of leave every year, and to make every effort to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Full details are available to employees on RIKEN's internal website.
Annual paid leave
Eligible employees receive an allocation of annual paid leave from April 1 to March 31. Unused annual paid leave may be carried into the next year (not to exceed 40 days of leave per year). The actual number of days of paid leave in an employee’s first year at RIKEN depends on the employee's start date.

Special paid leave
RIKEN has a system of special paid leave for significant life events such as births, weddings, funerals, and so on.

Summer holidays
Full-time RIKEN employees are granted additional paid leave during the summer. The number of days is determined by RIKEN at the start of each fiscal year. This leave must be used between July and September, and cannot be carried over into the following year.

New year holidays
The official New Year holidays for RIKEN are December 29 to January 3. The government and other public offices, as well as many companies close between these dates.
