Take the following documents to your local City Hall:
You will be given an application form at the City Hall that you will need to submit with your documents. Your passport will be given back to you. It will be a few weeks before you can get the actual card. For the meantime, you can ask for a certificate that shows you have applied (gaikokujin tōroku zumi shōmeisho). This temporary certificate will enable you to open a bank account. There is usually a nominal fee for the certificate (for example, in Wako it costs 200 yen). *Photos are not required for children under 16. |
